Our Impact

About the people of the colonias

Some of the people in the Colonia are still without electricity, running water, or indoor toilet facilities. Their wooden or cinder block homes have dirt floors, are not insulated from the heat or the cold, and in many cases have only a curtain for a door. The colonia was built over a garbage dump that was leveled and graded over. Most of the people live a “hand to mouth” existence, and never know if there will be enough money to buy food for the next day. The children can only attend school if they have shoes, a uniform and can provide their own school supplies and tuition costs. MTM sponsors 200+/- children annually to ensure they have the minimum requirements to attend school, which includes school uniforms, shoes, and a backpack filled with school supplies. In addition, we generally provide 500 students from the general population with backpacks full of school supplies every August. More than 600 families in the colonia, roughly 3,000 people, each trip receive a distribution of rice, beans, flour, maseca, sugar, pasta, and cooking oil. In October, they also receive a blanket to help insulate from the cold.

MILLION Dollars Raised

Since becoming an independent non-profit organization in 2009, we have raised more than $1,300,000 to support our mission. More than 97% of all cash donations go directly to support families in the colonia. Our goal remains to provide groceries and school supplies to the families we support as well as to help end the cycle of poverty through education.  Our generous donors make that possible.
